Dothan Housing is taking all necessary procedures and protocols to stop the spread of COVID-19 and prevent workplace exposure. The safety and well-being of our residents, staff, and community are among our highest priorities.

Appointments and Inspections:

Appointments and Inspections

All in-person appointments and/or inspections are functioning normally. When entering a Dothan Housing building, you will be required to wear a mask. Please contact your asset manager if you have questions.

Rental Payments and Agreements:

Payment of rent is due on the 1st of each month. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) ended the Eviction Moratorium on August 26, 2021. Residents and tenants are encouraged to continue paying on their repayment agreements.

Changes in Income:

If you have a change in your employment income or expenses, it is important that you inform your Asset/case manager by telephone or by electronic mail (email) message or at the office. Staff will assist you on how to provide the necessary paperwork to determine any changes that may occur.

Maintenance:

Dothan Housing is responding to work order requests normally. If you or anyone in your unit is affected by COVID-19, please notify your Asset Manager so that maintenance may be notified. Maintenance staff have the ability to decline to enter a unit if they believe it is unsafe.

Pest Management:

Pest control operations, including treatments for bedbugs and special treatments, in Dothan Housing or managed properties will continue as scheduled; however, they may be modified by the contractor.

Do I Qualify?

  • Households must have income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), as defined by AHFA.
  • AND One or more of the tenant household members have:
Covid 19

Qualified for unemployment benefits; OR

Attest in writing that due to or during the pandemic, they:

  1. Experienced a reduction in household income,
  2. Incurred significant costs, or
  3. Experienced financial hardship
  • AND Households must also demonstrate they:
  1. Are at risk of homelessness or housing instability by providing an eviction notice or past-due utility or rent notice; OR
  2. Live in unsafe or unhealthy housing conditions
  • The unit you are renting must be your primary residence and be located within the State of Alabama.
  • Any unpaid rent or utility bills you apply for can go no further back than March 13, 2020

Both landlords and tenants can use this website to create an account and submit their applications. If you need assistance completing an application, our customer service staff can complete the application with you by phone by calling 1-833-620-2434 (toll-free).

Emergency Rental Assistance Alabama can help renters with the following costs starting as far back as March 13, 2020 (this means you could potentially request assistance for up to 11 months of past-due bills):

  • Past due, current, and up to 3 months of expected rent costs
  • Past due, current, or up to 3 months of expected utility and home energy expenses
  • After the initial 3 months of forwarding assistance, you can apply for 3 additional months of assistance if funds are still available.
