Dothan Housing to Hold Second Annual Scholarship Gala
Our Purpose Gala 2023 in Dothan, AL
Dothan, AL – November 29, 2023 – Dothan Housing will host its annual Our Purpose Gala on December 7, 2023, at 6:00 PM at The Windmill Station in Dothan, AL. The gala is a celebration of housing achievements and a fundraiser for the Susan Morrison Memorial Scholarship.
The Susan Morrison Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Susan Morrison, a longtime Dothan Housing Board of Commissioner dedicated to helping others and passionate about housing. The scholarship, named for the prominent Real Estate agent, provides financial assistance to graduating high school seniors electing to attend college or trade school.
“We are excited to host the Our Purpose Gala and celebrate our many accomplishments,” said Dothan Housing CEO Samuel P. Crawford. “We are also grateful for the opportunity to raise funds for the Susan Morrison Memorial Scholarship, which is a fitting tribute to a woman who made a lasting impact on our community.”
The gala will feature a cocktail reception, dinner, guest speaker Mrs. Velma Tribue, a speech from the first scholarship recipient, LaMarion Durr, live entertainment from Cynthia Hall, and much more!
“We encourage everyone to attend the Our Purpose Gala and support this important cause,” said Dothan Housing COO Dr. Michael C. Threatt. “It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community’s progress in housing and make a difference in the lives of future leaders.”
The housing authority is happy to utilize the Our Purpose Gala to provide educational opportunities to deserving high school seniors and educate the public on affordable housing in the Wiregrass. The gala brings to life the recently published 2022 Dothan Housing Chasing Better Annual Report, and it also draws attention to significant community contributions made by the agency’s various departments throughout the 2023 fiscal year.
“We provide housing to a significant percentage of the Wiregrass Area as well as job assistance, career development, homeownership opportunities, food distribution, and stable economic partnerships with area landlords, just to name a few areas of contribution,” states Dothan Housing CHO Dr. Tamara Berry-Andrews.
