Agency Statement: Firearms and Child Safety

Public Hearing for FY 2024 Agency Plans

In reference to the self-inflicted gunshot wound by a minor in the vicinity of Samuel P. Crawford Village (formerly known as Henry Green Apartments), Dothan Housing, although relieved to know that this was a non-life-threatening injury, is saddened and understands the severity of the event. We want to take the time to encourage all community members and the public to please lock up all firearms and keep them out of the reach of children.

Our Resident Services Department will implement several firearm and home safety programs within our communities to provide a local solution to a nationwide challenge. Once the date is released, these safety courses, taught by professionals, will be available to the public for attendance. Although our city is a pin on a much larger map, we believe in chasing better in all circumstances and putting people first.

We are grateful that no life-threatening injuries were sustained in this situation and offer our thoughts of comfort and healing to the household involved. If you have any questions regarding our efforts to increase community safety, please email Community Safety Manager Jason Miller at jmiller@dothanhousing.org.
