Free One-Day Career Readiness Day Camp
Dothan Housing Partners with Southeast AlabamaWorks Student Workforce Academy
Dothan, Ala.— Dothan Housing (DH) is thrilled to announce the availability of a free one-day career readiness day camp taking place Friday, June 23, 2023, that will be available for DH residents and the public. This incredible opportunity is because of a partnership through the Student Workforce Academy of Southeast AlabamaWorks. Open to 6th-8th Grade students, attendees will be able to tour several local companies and gain exposure to non-traditional career paths.
“We are excited to be able to offer this program to the children of our residents and clients,” says DH Resident Services Manager Samiyah Craddock. “This partnership is groundbreaking and will be something we look forward to continuing with Southeast AlabamaWorks.”
According to blogger Heather Hudson and her article, The Benefits of College and Career Readiness for Middle School Students, middle school students who participate in College and Career Readiness (CCR) programs have a better sense of career direction and interest by the time they reach adulthood. They are also self-actualized in developing a career plan and have increased decision-making confidence.
“Self-Sufficiency concepts can be learned at any age, and programs that focus on career readiness are great opportunities to prepare our young people for the workforce,” says Samuel P. Crawford, CEO of DH.
Students will depart via bus at 8:00 AM and tour four local companies and businesses, including SmartLam and the CAE Training Center! Lunch will be provided, as well as in-depth and fun hands-on exposure at each location. Students will return from the camp promptly at 4:00 PM.
