Dothan Housing Authority Names Community Partner of the Year
Dothan, Ala.— Dothan Housing (DH) is pleased to announce the 2022 Community Partner of the Year is the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM), an extension of Southeast Health ®. The community partner of the year award is an extension of the DH employee recognition program. The agency is committed to providing more than affordable housing and addressing many of the needs of its families through uniting with private and public entities.
The partnership with ACOM began as a collaboration to assist in the COVID-19 pandemic response and ensure underserved communities received vaccine information and opportunities to receive the vaccine. DH has received $300,000.00 from the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) to address COVID-19 through this partnership. The same award was the catalyst for DH’s selection for the 2021 Best Practices of the Year award from the Alabama Association of Housing & Redevelopment Authorities (AAHRA).
The educational institution, through valued facilitators Dr. Audrey Vasauskas and Dr. Chante Richardson, has continued support for the agency by partnering in the Spring Health Fair and providing outreach through numerous student-led educational seminars on vaccines, stress management, flu, and more tailored explicitly to Dothan Housing residents and clients.
This historic partnership between DH and ACOM is invaluable and a testament to what is possible when businesses, organizations, and institutions partner with housing agencies. Partnerships with private organizations, other non-profits, and community institutions are essential to helping the agency reach its goals.
