Veterans and Seniors Community Health Fair

Dothan Housing Partners with Troy University and AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP

DOTHAN, AL – The Building Opportunities towards Self-Sufficiency (BOSS) 501(c)(3) non-profit, an extension of Dothan Housing, is partnering with Troy University and AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP for the Veterans and Seniors Community Health Fair on Thursday, October 20, 2022. The health fair will take place from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm inside the Our Community Housing and Enrichment Center (OCHEC) auditorium on 1001 Montana Street, Dothan, AL 36303.

It is important for our residents to take good care of their health, and we are proud to host this event alongside over 14 community partners”, said Samuel P. Crawford, CEO and President of Dothan Housing. “I encourage our valued area veterans and senior citizens to attend this beneficial event.”

Free screenings and information will be available at the health fair on the following:

  • Cholesterol
  • Blood Pressure
  • Mental Health
  • Diabetes
  • Behavioral Health
  • Women’s Health
  • Emergency Preparedness

And much more. 

“The opportunity to team up with such notable organizations and community members has been rewarding,” said Stacy Parris, Dothan Housing’s VP of Employee & Customer Experience. “We are excited to be able to offer a health fair at a critical point before the height of flu season and cold weather.”

Some of our local business partners that will present and offer services include:

  • Houston County DHR – agency resources as well as recruitment for adult foster homes
  • Amedisys Home Health – information about home health services 
  • Wiregrass 211 – local resources and a health navigator to assist with selecting affordable health insurance 
  • AL Dept. of Public Health – offering information on state programs in the Wiregrass
  • Social Work Department – offering mental health awareness/coping strategies, specifically during emergencies/natural disasters. 

“When you head to the health fair, please consider helping BOSS fight hunger by bringing a non-perishable food donation,” said Dothan Housing’s COO and Senior VP, Dr. Michael C. Threatt. “The non-profit will sponsor ‘Thanksgiving Blessing Baskets’ for those in need this holiday season.”
