Hope in the Form of Fresh Produce: DH Commissioner Michael Jackson
HOPE IN THE FORM OF FRESH PRODUCE
DECEMBER 09 , 2021–Dothan Housing Commissioner, Michael Jackson celebrated the longevity and success of Aunt Katie’s Garden with a ribbon cutting ceremony held in conjunction with the Dothan Chamber of Commerce. Surrounded by community members, including Dothan Housing’s Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Mr. David Jamison, President and CEO Mr. Samuel P. Crawford, and Senior Vice President and COO Dr. Michael C. Threatt, the ribbon cutting began promptly outdoors within the garden at 2:00pm. Joy and plans for future construction along with expansion were shared by the garden’s founder, DH Commissioner Jackson, and his staff.
Originally started to answer the severe problem of Alabama’s childhood obesity epidemic, Aunt Katie’s garden has grown in size and vision. The garden feeds the citizens of Dothan, AL and provides education on healthy habits and the importance of sustainable agriculture. In the future Mr. Jackson hopes to obtain additional property that can serve as more gardening space and housing for future interns from regional colleges and universities.
Dothan Housing looks forward to witnessing and becoming actively involved in future endeavors of Aunt Katie’s Garden and similar community organizations that provide hope to the multitudes!
