Securing Housing for Veterans:

• $140,000 in VASH Vouchers: DH received a significant grant of $141,216 through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program. These vouchers will provide 20 local veterans experiencing homelessness with access to safe and affordable housing. With over 14% of the city’s population in need of housing and more than 11,000 families on the waitlists for affordable housing, awards for special purpose vouchers like VASH are imperative to meeting regional needs.  DHA will work closely with the Montgomery VA Medical Center to ensure veterans receive the support they need to thrive in their new homes.

Supporting Veteran Organizations:

• Vehicle Donation: Recognizing the vital role organizations like Disabled American Veterans (DAV®) and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) play in supporting veterans, DH donated several retired fleet vehicles. These vehicles will be used to enhance transportation services and outreach programs, allowing veterans to access essential resources and connect with their community. Taking place during a Veterans Appreciation Luncheon, the donation was equipped with a special visit from Miles of Giving Foundation visionary and advocate, comedian, and actor Thomas “Nephew Tommy” Miles. 

Investing in Veteran Businesses:

• Veteran-Owned Website Development: DH awarded the contract for its new website development to a local veteran-owned technology company. This commitment strengthens DH’s support of the local veteran community while ensuring the agency’s online presence is modern and user-friendly. The new website is set to launch in 2024.
